A static web site is basically what you call a "brochure" web site that has limited functionality in terms of eccommerce and built-in marketing tools. Static web sites are meant for small to medium businesses and usually only require minimal maintenance. At Urquhart Townson Design and Photography, we develop all of our static web sites using Adobe Dreamweaver and the latest web standards, giving clients the ability to easily maintain their own web site using Dreamweaver's companion software called Adobe Contribute.
What does CMS stand for you ask? CMS means "Content Management System". A CMS web site is database driven and can contain eccommerce functionality and marketing tools such as e-newletters built into the web software. The beauty behind CMS web sites is that they have what's called a "back-end" to the web software, which allows clients to maintain their web site through their own web browser. These web sites usually require more maintenance and are usually for medium to large size businesses.
Custom programmed web sites are database driven web sites for medium to large businesses that require special functionality not found in static and off-the-shelf CMS web sites.

Urquhart Townson Design and Photography, established in 2001 by Alan Urquhart and Coy Townson, is a small graphic design studio of commercial graphic artists, web designers, and photographers, located in Bakersfield, California. At Urquhart Townson, clients get to work directly with the designers, eliminating frustration and increasing productivity.
